Mya C. and two participants

Mya C.

Mya initially joined Girls Group in 6th grade because the programs seemed like the perfect place to make new friends and memories. Although nervous at first, Mya quickly realized that Girls Group is a designated space to thrive and flourish as an individual.

Since joining, Mya has been incredibly active in multiple program spaces. She takes full advantage of the enrichment opportunities and is always the first to volunteer to try something new. This past summer, she was a regular participant in almost daily programs Monday through Friday and showed the most interest in being exposed to new opportunities and experiences. She said, “My favorite part of Girls Group is doing things we can’t always do at school. This past summer we did a lot of great arts and crafts, talked about financial readiness, and went on meaningful field trips.”

Mya says that Girls Group impacts her greatly because the programs, topics, and activities help set her up for success in the “real world”. Mya says, “Girls Group helps us explore what we want to do with our lives by providing us with the right tools and resources.”

In the future, Mya wants to go to college to be a lawyer and entrepreneur. She is looking forward to all the support and possibilities that Girls Group has yet to provide in high school and beyond!

Earlier this month, Mya went to HAIL! Impact Wolverine Women’s Tailgate event. She met the University of Michigan’s Women’s basketball team and even joined them in a game of Pop-A-Shot! After the event, Mya expressed that attending and meeting with the team was a new favorite memory of hers.
