From March 31 through April 2, participants traveled to Ohio for a three-day experience focused on exposure, exploration, and connection as they began envisioning their futures beyond high school.
During the trip, participants visited Ohio State University, Central State University, and the University of Cincinnati. Through campus tours, presentations, and student Q&As, the girls experienced a variety of college environments, from a large Big Ten campus to a smaller HBCU setting and an urban university campus. For many students, this was their first time touring colleges and even eating in a college dining hall.
Throughout the experience, participants were engaged, curious, and excited. One student shared that visiting campuses in person helped her realize how different each school can feel, while another said the trip made college feel more real and possible for her future.
Students also reflected on past college tours and meaningful experiences. One participant from the NAACP Tour shared that her favorite schools were Spelman and Hampton, and that she applied to both after the trip. She also described visiting the Civil Rights Museum as one of the most impactful experiences she has ever had. Another student shared that hearing directly from tour guides about their college experiences was a highlight for her.
One of the most exciting moments of the trip was celebrating two on-the-spot college acceptances for Ka’Shana M. and Charissa H. after they completed their initial applications. Both students are also eligible for scholarships.
Beyond the campus visits, the girls enjoyed bonding through shared meals, hotel activities, and group time together, helping strengthen friendships and build sisterhood.
Overall, the trip was a huge success and gave participants valuable exposure to college life while helping them see themselves in these spaces and think more confidently about their futures.
Thank you to all of the chaperones, partners, and university staff who made this experience possible. Your support, time, and commitment helped create a safe, meaningful, and impactful experience for our participants.
