Optimistic About Options

November 2023

Community colleges and universities and trade schools and vocational schools, oh my! With so many options available for post-secondary education, it can feel overwhelming to choose the right fit.

This month, College & Career Prep participants learned more about the HBCU Pathways program, a year-round program focused on college readiness, career exploration, and cultural awareness. The program is designed to inform decisions related to career paths before students select a major or college, and to connect participants to early work experiences with the overarching goal to positively address the achievement gap through increased college attendance and meaningful career paths.

On the same day, participants also toured Washtenaw Community College. “The tour gave me a better idea of what it would be like to go to a community college…” one participant reflected. “I had no idea there were so many different programs and opportunities [at Washtenaw Community College], there are even programs I can join as a senior in high school!”

On the drive home, participants shared highlights with staff from the program and left feeling optimistic about their options.
